Genipin(98% by HPLC)
An Excellent Natural Cross-linker
Genipin(structure on the top) is an aglycone derived from an iridoid glycoside called Geniposide (structure on the bottom) present in fruit of Gardenia jasmindides Ellis. Genipin is an excellent natural cross-linker for protein, collagen, gelatin, and chitosan cross-linking. It has a low acute toxicity, with LD50 i.v. 382 mg/kg in mice, therefore, much less toxic than glutaraldehyde and many other commonly used synthetic cross-linking regents. It is also used for pharmaceutical purposes, such as choleretic action for liver diseases control.
CBC Genipin is in a white crystal powder form, with its purity 98% up by HPLC method. It is soluble in Ethanol, Methanol, Acetone, and slightly soluble in water. Currently there are many medical research groups conducting experiments on the use and effects of Genipin as a natural cross-linker. We believe in the near future Genipin will be an effective pharmaceutical raw material that will significantly benefit patients who need it.
